In recent decades, we have seen extraordinary and enduring intervention by central banks in the economy and global politics. For Catalonia, the increasing public relevance of these institutions worldwide has meant nothing beyond a limited mention of aspects such as its role in the economy and politics, its organisation, its operations or its long history.
Elsewhere, as Catalonia continues its journey towards independence in 2021, the discussion surrounding the central bank of an independent Catalonia is completely absent from public debate, including its primary role as an engine for the country’s economic growth.
Indeed, we are deeply concerned that one of the most important institutions of the future independent state of Catalonia has been left out of the public debate. Not to mention that, internationally, the voice of pro-independence is mute on matters concerning central banks.
To solve these problems, we thought it necessary to create and promote a new space called the Catalonia Group on Central Banks, open to those on both the left and the right, where contributors could generate in-depth knowledge on central banks from a perspective of Catalan national interest.
Accordingly, we have also decided to create content in both Catalan and English.
Our work will take the shape of in-depth articles, lectures by renowned international experts in the field and translations of books and other documents.
To remain independent and unaffected by changes in the government or political parties, we will rely solely on private donations.
Those who wish to support our independence can do so here.
